Fitness Tech
Track your strokes, monitor your heart rate, log your sessions. Tech that actually survives the water.

Data for the water-obsessed

The fitness tech market has finally caught up to water sports. Waterproof GPS watches now track paddle distance, swim laps, surf sessions, and heart rate in the ocean without flinching. The data nerd and the water junkie finally have gear that works for both of them.

The key word is actually waterproof. Not splash resistant. Not water resistant up to 30 meters. Actually waterproof for the way you use it — diving off your board, getting worked by a wave, paddling in the rain for two hours.

We break down which tech is built for real ocean use and which is just marketing.

5ATM vs 10ATM
5ATM = 50 meters water resistance. Fine for swimming and SUP. 10ATM = 100 meters. Better for diving and heavy surf. Both handle casual water sports just fine.
GPS Accuracy on Water
Not all GPS watches track accurately on open water. Look for watches with multi-band GPS or dedicated swim/paddle modes for the most accurate distance data.
Battery Life Matters
A full day on the water can drain a watch fast if GPS is active. Look for 10+ hours of GPS battery life for all-day adventures without anxiety.
