How to choose

Choose calm water times. Early morning is the best time for SUP yoga — flattest water, lightest wind, and usually fewer boats creating wake. Afternoon wind is the enemy of SUP yoga. Commit to early sessions and your practice will be exponentially more enjoyable.

Start with poses you already know. The water adds significant instability. Start your first few sessions with poses you can do confidently on land — the water will challenge you enough. Don't try new poses on the board until you're comfortable with the medium.

Wider boards are better for yoga. Anything over 32" works. Over 35" is ideal. The extra width is the difference between a meditative practice and a survival exercise. If your SUP is under 30", consider renting a wider board for yoga sessions.
